Turkey’s bilateral relations with Singapore date back to the early 19th century. The first Turkish Consulate in Singapore was opened in 1865, which was followed by the first Consulate General in 1901.
Following the independence of Singapore on 9 August 1965, Turkey and Singapore established diplomatic relations on 12 February 1969. Turkey opened its Embassy in Singapore on 1 November 1985. After functioning in its chancery at "20B Nassim Road" until 2004, the Embassy moved to its current premises located at "SGX Centre 1, 2 Shenton Way, #10-03".
The Embassy which functions with around 15 staff members also encompasses the Military Attaché’s Office (accredited from Jakarta) and the Trade Office.
A book by Ambassador H. Taner Seben titled “The First Turkish Representatives in Singapore and Consul General Ataullah Efendi” elaborates on Turkey’s relations with Singapore before the proclamation of the Republic in 1923. It is available for download at our website as well as our Facebook page.
